  • Ballots Have Already Hit Mailboxes

Posted Oct 07 at 2 PM

I just heard from a supporter that she and her husband have recieved their mail-in ballot and have already voted Ryckman.  I"m sure many of you will also be recieving your ballots soon.  We know that in Jeffco a majority of people opted for mail-in ballots.  I did too, I knew that the ballot would be long and I wanted to be able to make sure I had plenty of time to vote.

I encourage you to look over the whole ballot and if you don't know a candidate take a few minutes to look at their website and look at  League of Women Voters a non-partisian group who places helpful information about candidates on thier website.  As a candidate I want to make sure you have all the information you need to make your decisions.

I hope that as we draw near to the election that I have met you at your home or an event or just in the grocery store.  I think that if you and I can have a conversation about what is going on, what kind of person I am and what I want to do for our community that you will know that voting for me is a vote cast for creating the opportunities that we need here in our community.  If we haven't met please call me 303-919-7012.  I want to know what issues are important to you and I want you to be able to ask me questions regarding my candidacy.  You are the voice that needs to be heard and represented at the state house and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you for voting!

I can tell you many stories about people I have been talking to in our neighborhoods who are concerned about what we are going to do to make sure that we can grow in smart and forward-thinking ways for our economy.  People who are concerned with our dependence on foreign oil.  Some are actively making the choice to put up solar panels, some are recycling and composting, some are figuring out ways to make their jobs and businesses more green.  Most of these people feel they are not making huge changes in their lives, but whether it is starting a recyling program at work or it is making changes in the way they buy their products, they are doing something amazing.   I support these big and small efforts.  This is the basis for change in our community.

I was talking with my neighbor, Mr. Dean, who said that even in his 70's he is learning more about what he can do to be a better citizen and to make sure that he and his wife are contributing.  Mr. Dean has upped his recycling; he has changed out his old light bulbs for new CFL's.  He downplays his contribution, but I applaud it.  He is making a difference.  Even though he thinks it a small step, what if all of our neighbors switched to recycle more and use less, and what if not only my neighbors did that, but yours did too.  Would that be small - I don't think so.  This is how major change happens.  From reusable drink bottles, to recycling the newspaper - it all makes a difference.

Now we need to take this a step further - we have amazing resources in Colorado and we let it slip through our fingers everyday.  Solar panels and the ability to capture solar power has become cheaper, but we have more work to do to harness this power and bring it into the grid.  Colorado could provide energy to surrounding states, bring new money into our state and local economy.  We also have amazing research going on here in Colorado regarding photovotics and the power of using photocells to capture energy.  Can we make this a viable option for homeowners and businesses?   I will work to make it so.  We need to move forward - I want to help build the power for tomorrow, today.  Let us plan for the future of our children and their children so we don't have to be solely reliant on oil, gas and coal.  We can diversify, we need to diversify.  And once we do, we can divest from fuels that are adversely affecting our open spaces.  We deserve a legislator  who will make a better Colorado not just work at it - and isn't that what it is all about?

For the past few months, I have been knocking on doors, talking to voters in the district to learn more about what concerns they have in the upcoming election as well as what they want in their representative at the state capitol. Overwhelmingly, their interests are with the economy and where our nation - and specifically Colorado - are headed. And with good reason! Those concerns are shared by me and my family as well. There certainly has to be something done to fix our ailing economy and help our neighbors find work. I believe my election is the way to insure the strong families that we need in our community.

But where is Ken Summers in all of this? I've talked to voters of all walks of life who have said that they have never met their state representative; and that is a shame. I have been knocking on doors to talk to people about their concerns and will keep doing so until I've knocked on every door in the district - even if it is after the election. I'm not only campaigning to win your vote. I am campaigning to be your representative. So I will keep knocking on doors in December and January if that is what it takes to knock on every door in this district.

And the reason I am knocking on everyone's door? Because that is the best way to hear about your concerns. So, I will post the neighborhoods that I will be walking in weekly on my website. I am posting the neighborhoods I am walking so you know when I am going to be in your neighborhood so you can tell me what concerns you have. I want to be your representative. Call me 303-919-7012, email me at camille@camilleforcolorado.com or talk to me at your door. Help me understand your state concerns so I can be the best representive for you.

  • Get Ready Because Here I Come

With the Primary solidly behind us, we can now move on towards the General Election. I would be remiss in not thanking the amazing people who worked so hard to help me get my name and my message out to our neighbors. So, thank you. Thank you for not only your hard work – which there was plenty- but mostly for your faith in our mission to do good in our community. My friends have said that they have been inspired by me to get more involved in their communities. This is the greatest compliment. I know that inspiration to do good is like yeast to the community, it helps it grow.

I have found that inspiration in my daughters, Emma and Harper. They are the reason why I have decided to undertake this amazing journey. They inspire me to be a better mother and a better example of a wife, a better community member and ultimately a better citizen in the world. I dedicate this fight for state house to them. Those close to me, my mom, my mother-in-law, my friend Val and many others have been of great support to me always encouraging and always letting me know that I am doing the right thing. So… get ready because here I come.

I am ready to hit the ground running as we go into the General election. I will not rest until I have talked to every voter and knocked on as many doors as there are in this house district. I will call everyday and I will walk every evening until the election. I hope that you are home when I come by so we can have a conversation about what is important to you and to your family. I want to be your representative, I want to listen to you and I want you to feel comfortable talking to me about your concerns. This is not a job for one person; it is a job for the community. I need you to work with me so I can be your representative to the state house, then I will be able to work hard for you. I will take time to get to know you and the issues that concern you. I will listen to what you have to say and fight for what we want need as a community.

  • Our Community

Posted Aug 08 at 3 PM

As we head into the final weeks I have had some time to reflect on why this election and ultimately, my running for state house, is so important to me and ultimately to you, my neighbors.

Having grown up in the Bear Creek area, I am no stranger to how much community plays into our everyday lives. The same King Soopers (although I had a hard time finding my way around when they first reordered everything), the same neighborhood restaurants and a few new ones to try, the same beautiful greenbelt.

My husband, Cory and I want to pass a sense of community on. Emma and Harper already know that when we go to the local recreation center for swim lessons with Sara (a recent Bear Creek Grad and on her way to CU) she will be there to teach them. They ask to go to school to see the community garden grow (which looks great by the way). They know that Diane will be working the check-stand at the grocery store (she’ll ask if they’ve been good and encourage them to do well in school). They know that we can walk over to Grandma’s (to “borrow” some brownies). These are a few things that as a family we have embraced as being part of the community.

I believe that you and I and all of our neighbors, who built this community, are concerned about our future. We want to make this a quality community. I know that to have a quality community we need to have stronger families. Families that have secure jobs, affordable healthcare, that see the value in fighting for future generations to keep space open and water clean and that we have a world class education system for our students so they can work and live and play right here in our neighborhood. That is the kind of community I want to live in and that is the kind of community I want to represent.

  • Still in a Primary Race

Well, a lot has been happening on the campaign trail.  As many of you know, this is a stressful time for Vince and his family, and I don't want to complicate what is already a difficult situation for them. Anything I could add would only politicize this and I don't think that is going to do anyone any good.

That said,  I am concentrating on walking my precincts and talking to voters.  I know that I am still in a primary as of today and it is important that I get my name out to voters.  I did get my yardsigns this weekend and I am getting those out and delivered.  If you would like one please call me and let me know or you can pick it up at my house.  303-919-7012.

I have enjoyed walking and talking to my neighbors in HD 22.  I think that most people are interested in the top of the ticket and so many have said that they really don't always vote for a state rep because they usually don't know who they are or what they stand for - this would be the case in our HD since we have a huge undervote.  It is my goal to get my name out to all the Dems in this area for the primary and let the voters know where I stand on the issues that are important to them.  I would love to be able to talk all the other voters as well, as soon as the primary is over.

I have heard from many of you out there appreciate your positive comments and suggestions.  Thanks for your support.

Ending on a high note, State Democratic leaders announced their support for me - I have been in discussion with many of our State Representatives talking about Colorado issues and where I stand and what I will bring to the state house, so it is an honor to have a list of so many great legislators endorse me.  See Press release on the home page for more info and a list of names.

Hello all.  I wanted to share with you an amazing project called 1000 Voices.

Phoebe let me know that they are working with the White House Project "to make sure that the voices of selected leaders in the WHP community are elevated and promoted so that young women know that they can be leaders as well. Your story is tremendously inspiring and can do much to move a new generation of leaders. The stories will be promoted to the media and community leaders, educators, and policymakers in cities across America."

Phoebe Eng is the Executive Director of 1000 Voices Archieve and is working with the CreativeCouncel to "tap the potential of creative professionals in amplifying the voices of our nation's most effective and inspirational civic leaders. Our work is based on the premise that the creative community can help shape public dialogue and inspire us toward solutions on how to build strong communities and expand opportunity for all. Our community is comprised of filmmakers, musicians, writers, and visual artists who are interested in using their talents to make a difference in the world."

Phoebe wrote to me to let me know that I was nominated to be a featured storyteller by Faith WInter of the White House Project.  Of course I wanted to be part of this archive of storytellers.  Phoebe made it seem easy.  "Just tell me your story" - she said.  She is a talented women who was able to get out so much of who I am and why I am running for office through her inquiries. So much of why I am running is based on family and community and Phoebe knew just how to draw out my story.  It was empowering to be able to articulate my story into why I believe that service is so important to who I am and why I am willing to step out into the public arena.

1000 Voices, a national short film archive of American leaders sharing a story that evokes the values they believe in.

We won't have to wait for the film to be completed, Pheobe said she would try to send a DVD of my story to the campaign as soon as it is completed.  Although I can't wait until the taping of all stories is completed, the project sounds amazing.  To learn more about this project you can go to www.creativecounsel.org

  • From the Campaign Trail

Posted Jul 05 at 5 PM

Today is July 5, the first time I have blogged but certainly not the last.  I will do updates as often as there is news to share.

First of all, thank you for your interest.  Second, don't forget to vote in the Primary August 12.  I need great people to help me make sure we get all the voters out.  Many of you know that this is also the first day of school for Jeffco students (my two sweet little girls, Emma will be in 2nd grade and Harper will be in 1st grade) Lastly, thanks to my campaign team who gets so much done in so little time.  You are all truly appreciated.

The campaign news is good.  I have almost completed my filing for this period and thanks to most of you I have raised about $10,000 to date.

I have had lit printed and I will have signs soon.  For those who have already offered to put up a sign THANK YOU, and if you would like to put up a sign but haven't let the campaign know, please call me at 303-919-7012.

I continue to walk and talk to our neighbors and would love to have you join me if you have a free morning (9-12) or evening (6-8ish).  Call me if you have a date that works best for you, I might call you first.  I already have walk committments for July 8 and 9 but I can would love to walk with you any other time.  I am especially looking at walking the southern precincts.

Feedback from walking is great, people are very interested and excited about the election this year, hopefully that means great turn out for Dems.  The concern most people are raising is that it is harder and harder to get by on less and less.  When I am in office, I will work to make our economy strong and help out those who truely need it.

I also will be speaking on July 19 about my thoughts on healthcare along with State Senator Betty Boyd, and other candidates up for election.  I have been contemplating this issue, I've read about many different "solutions" and I have talked about it with my husband, family and friend as well as professionals in the health care community.  It will be a very interesting conversation on July 19.  Please join the South Jeffco Dems at Mr. Biggs at 10 am.   Don't forget your wallet if you'd like to have breakfast as well.

AS ALWAYS I WANT TO REPRESENT OUR COMMUNITY FOR OUR FAMILIES.
